The Metallic Materials Application Engineer provides materials expertise and technical leadership for multiple material systems across a variety of components. The focus of this role is the development and application of metallic materials and processes across a variety of aviation components within the supply chain.
In this role you will work with new products and legacy teams to solve complex technical problems. This role has a direct effect on short-term and some long-term business goals. The role requires horizontal partnership with design, sourcing, and quality to ensure robust technical solutions for the customer.

- Materials and process definition
- Supplier support including review and approval of significant process changes, substantiation of nonconformances and cost reductions.
- Material property assessments that enable product improvements and destructive analysis of manufactured, engine tested and fielded hardware.
- Support/Manage resolution of material processing related issues encountered during manufacturing, both internally and at suppliers, with impact on the life cycle of the component.
- Support and lead continuous Improvement initiatives through Lean Methodology to assure and maintain Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost of aero-engine components.
- Support and lead research and development programs on materials, processes and technologies. Execute developmental testing programs and hardware test campaign to qualify part processing
- Support and lead cross-functional teams (materials, design, manufacturing) to reach the technical maturity of advanced materials and / or manufacturing technologies using the TRL / MRL process.
- Communication of materials characteristics to non-Mat Engr (i.e., Design, Supply Chain & Suppliers).
- Exposure to Quality systems & requirements.
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external customers using reports, records, and letters.

- Master Degree in Material Science or Materials Engineering.
- Significant experience in a complex industrial environment (aerospace desired) with materials application engineering, materials development, and/or engineering program management.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes especially Forging and Casting technologies.
- Subject matter expert in key technical area of material science, or breadth across multiple disciplines.
- In-depth understanding of metallurgy, manufacturing processes and inspections associated with aircraft engine parts.
- Understanding of processing vs. property trades & material data application.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Able to communicate complex problems and ideas with clarity to different types of audiences.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams.
- The ability to plan and coordinate several projects simultaneously.
- Effective problem identification and solution skills.
- Proven analytical and organizational ability.
