Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field required. Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in instrumentation design, development, or engineering.
- Strong troubleshooting skills supporting complex analytical instrumentation.
- Knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry principles; hands-on experience with LC/MS systems or components is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g., digital multimeters, oscilloscopes) and engineering drawings.
- Experience with engineering documentation, change control, and risk assessments.
- Experience with LC/MS hardware and software is preferred.
- Familiarity with Python, Lua, C#, C++, or similar programming languages.
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., ISO 9001); SAP experience is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
What you’ll do
- Serve as the technical leader for Manufacturing Engineering, resolving systemic production issues for mass spectrometry instrumentation.
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI), including system test development and technology transfer into manufacturing.
- Develop manufacturing processes and drive process improvements with suppliers.
- Conduct failure analysis and lead root-cause investigations supporting CAPA and customer issues.
- Develop and implement advanced analytics and AI solutions to improve testing and troubleshooting.
- Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and Device History Records (DHRs), and train technicians and manufacturing engineers.
- Review and disposition nonconforming materials.
- Design and implement production test equipment and fixtures.
- Provide technical support to suppliers.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, manufacturing capacity, and supply chain optimization.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Scientist to provide technical leadership for the production of cutting-edge analytical instrumentation in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment. You will support existing products while leading New Product Introduction (NPI) from pilot builds through production, partnering with R&D, Design Engineering, suppliers, and Manufacturing to ensure successful technology transfer and robust, manufacturable designs.
