Who we’re looking for
- 7+ years of experience building and shipping high-impact product experiences at scale, with significant time spent on Android/mobile.
- Strong, proven experience building Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks – this is a mobile-first role.
- Deep understanding of mobile architecture patterns, testing strategies and the Android app lifecycle in production – with the ability to evaluate, propose and drive architectural changes.
- Comfortable working across the full stack – backend APIs and web surfaces – with a mobile-first mindset and willingness to own end-to-end delivery.
- Experience working with APIs, including networking, data persistence and offline scenarios.
- A track record of maintaining and evolving long-lived codebases in production, including driving technical debt reduction and quality improvements.
- Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines in a professional engineering environment.
- Strong product instincts – you care about the problem as much as the implementation.
- Comfortable defining scope, navigating ambiguity and making trade-offs in real time.
- Experience operating without dedicated Product Managers or Designers – or a strong proven ability to do so.
- Expert in and actively working with modern AI development tools, such as: GitHub Copilot for rapid code generation and refactoring Cursor / Claude as AI-native IDE or CLI for development speed and software delivery Emerging AI agents and workflow automation tools to reduce friction, test faster and unlock scale
- Experience at a product-driven company (startup, founder or scale-up experience preferred).
- Effective communication in English.
What you’ll do
- Take end-to-end ownership of product initiatives on the Mews POS Android application – from problem definition to prototype to production.
- Build rapidly, ship often and iterate based on real feedback from hospitality operators.
- Lead the design and implementation of mobile-first systems that power: Point-of-Sale workflows and real-time transaction processing Hardware integrations (printers, payment terminals, peripherals) Offline-capable and resilient mobile experiences AI-powered features and smart automation within the POS product
- Drive architectural decisions for the Android application, identifying structural improvements and leading their adoption across the team.
- While mobile is your primary domain, contribute across backend and web layers when the product requires it – you're a Product Builder first, not a platform specialist.
- Work closely with Product Managers and Designers to stay aligned on direction without being dependent on them for day-to-day execution.
- Operate as a self-contained unit: making decisions, running experiments and owning delivery.
- Set a high bar for technical and product quality – you won't just ship features, you'll build systems that last and evolve.
- Ensure high standards of performance, reliability, usability, observability and security, and raise the bar when you see room to improve.
- Mentor engineers who wish to grow as Product Builders and champion modern development practices, including effective use of AI development tools.
- Review code thoughtfully and actively shape a culture of technical excellence by constructively challenging technical decisions and ways of working.
