Who we’re looking for

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience building backend applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Previous experience leading or mentoring software engineers.
• Hands-on experience delivering production systems in cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of software design principles and engineering best practices.
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

What you’ll do

• Lead the design, development and evolution of cloud-native backend services built with Java and Kotlin.
• Contribute hands-on to coding, architecture discussions and solution design.
• Own the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through to deployment and production support.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, testing practices and continuous improvement.
• Ensure services remain scalable, resilient, secure and observable.
• Collaborate closely with Architects, Principal Developers and Product teams to shape technical direction and delivery priorities.
• Mentor and support software engineers in their technical and professional growth.
• Provide regular feedback, coaching and development guidance.
• Help developers prioritise work and focus on the highest-value initiatives.
• Contribute to performance and development conversations.
• Support hiring, onboarding and capability building within the team.
• Foster a collaborative culture built on ownership, accountability and continuous learning.
• Take ownership of the operational health of the services your team supports.
• Monitor performance, reliability and production behaviour.
• Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Translate operational insights into meaningful improvements.
• Balance feature delivery with technical debt reduction and platform maturity initiatives.
• Partner with Product, QA, DevOps, Architecture and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Facilitate technical discussions and decision-making.
• Identify risks, dependencies and trade-offs early.
• Champion improvements across engineering processes, tooling and ways of working.
